Commendation: Abbots & Kinney

Architect: Studio-Gram

Location: SA

Duality, originality, and craft were the binding elements that formed the overall concept for Abbots & Kinney. The space is split on the diagonal, one side, bespoke timber framing, free of any linings, revealing the structure and construction techniques that are often overlooked. The other side is flushed and painted black. Every joinery item, including the bin, are bespoke elements, every joint was measured against tradition and expressed in a contemporary manner, a true reflection of the client’s craft.

Commendation: Bresic Whitney Hunters Hill

Architect: Chenchow Little

Location: NSW

Chenchow Little’s commercial office fit out for Bresic Whitney Hunters Hill explores the innovative use of timber in an open plan office environment.   A decision was made to keep the existing shell and services of the tenancy untouched to maximise the height of the space available, conserve resources and provide a unique character befitting the agency’s ethos.  The use of American Oak as a continuous floor and wall covering helps to visually connect the internal spaces and create a seamless transition between different areas of the office.  American Oak was chosen for its self finishing qualities, durability, resilience and long life, with a matt clear coating used on the timber floor to match the natural finish of the interior walls whilst providing protection.
