2013 Winners
The House House project is an impressive new addition to two existing terrace houses, with the timber structure a natural stand out. The project uses timber as an overall expression of a new architectural inner-city type, with the success of the design lying in the differentiation between the existing buildings and the new, timber structure. In gritty, urban North Fitzroy (VIC), the timber adds domestic warmth and vibrancy to the exterior facade of the house. The project cleverly spans two existing houses and disguises the join between them.
Commendation: Gordons Bay Residence
Architect: Madeleine Blanchfield Architects
Location: NSW
A residential project for a young family, the Gordons Bay Residence is commended for its sheer elegance and restrained use of timber. The colour and softness of the timber blends with the foreshore vegetation and the rocks and boat racks of the bay. The project’s texture is stunning with the quality timber offset against concrete.
